Following our time on the island, this gallery provides the opportunity to put a number of images of Gran Canaria together in the one place.
What makes the Island special
Gran Canaria is one of Spain’s Canary Islands which are close to the north west coast of Africa. Its capital, Las Palmas, is a large city with a major port. It is a frequent stopping point for cruise ships as well as commercial traffic.
The island’s interior is rural, mountainous and dramatic. Its southern beaches are home to the Maspalomas area which is apparently the biggest tourist conurbation in Europe. However, there are also quieter villages such as Puerto de Mogán and San AgustÃn.
A week of January sunshine was what we were after and the weather was kind enough to provide this. We spent the 7 days enjoying the sunshine and taking in the sights, including a tour of the island’s highlights. Check out our Sun and Sights blog post for more on our time in Gran Canaria.
