Welcome to Taking in the Sights and thanks for taking some time to look at the site and find out about us.

A Bit About Us

We are David and Sharyn, a mid 50s couple of travel addicts based in Glasgow, Scotland. We have 2 kids to show for our 30+ years together. Both are now well in their twenties.  You’ll find they feature occassionally. Desk jobs have funded our travels for as long as we have been married. Although we are constantly exploring alternatives to this.

Our Passion for Travel

Like many people, we return after each journey thinking there must be something better than the familiar work routine. Perhaps it is an age thing, but each time we come back the desire to go again grows stronger. Now, instead of leaving planning the next trip until we get back we tend to be juggling a number of future arrangements at the same time. It feels like feeding a craving.

We have been travelling since our daughters were young, absorbing different cultures and feeding my passion for travel photography. They say travel broadens the mind, and we agree. However, this just scratches the surface as it does so much to develop you as a person.

As the years go by we travel with an ever increasing enthusiasm. Our ‘kids’ still occassionally show an interest in paying their own way and coming with us. Perhaps a sign we are doing something right! The travel bug seems to have been passed to the next generation which we are pleased about.

A Bit About Taking in the Sights

We are a relative newcomer to the web and are designing the site as a vibrant, quality driven, travel and photography blog. Our core focus is on travel guides and destination reviews. We aim to make sure you ‘know before you go’ with travel planning and travel advice, backed up with inspirational photography.

Although the site was only started in 2017 we have over 30 years of travelling behind us. So we have gathered a lot of knowledge, information and experience over the years to bring to this new venture. We think this makes us well placed to contribute to the competitive travel blog market and hope you do too. As a long term goal we aim to grow steadily to become recognised and well respected within the industry.

Our Beginnings

The decision to launch the site was to let us use the experience we have gathered and share these with our audience. This includes good and bad along with the mishaps. Hopefully, we can inspire you and tempt you to visit destinations that are new to you. If these are even a little out of your comfort zone so much the better – there is a big world out there.

Our views are based on our own experiences and knowledge gathered during our travels. The length of each trip varies, from short city breaks to longer road trips. When we are away it is important for us to get a balance between ‘taking in the sights’ and just chilling out. Variety is important to us.

Ultimately, we are ‘Canny Scots’ so money doesn’t leave our pockets easily and only does so when we are comfortable we are getting value for money. Recommendations for excursions or things to do will have been compared with competitors before we made any commitment.
